Joe, Brita, and their two boys, a culturally mixed family, have just bought their first home on Summer Street. The American mother and Syrian immigrant father are starting to make friends in the neighborhood. They are looking forward to a quiet life in their new home when a call from across the world changes everything.
Joe’s nephew, Rashid, has lost his father in the conflict and life in Syria is no longer safe for him. Without much advance warning, he comes to live with Joe and Brita in Summer Street. Although he’s had a rough time escaping the war, Rashid is a hopeful young man with an easy smile and lots of energy. The family takes him in—and then both exciting and alarming things start to happen.
The Yellow House Stories follow daily life on Summer Street, an American neighborhood where cultures meet, challenges emerge, and people learn how to live together.
